Summer Tournament 2024

The final summer casual of this semester break had to be held indoors, but that didn’t stop us from organizing a small yet exciting tournament! Fourteen players participated, and only four rounds of chess were all that stood between them and eternal victory.

Before diving into the exciting matches that were played in the tournament, it’s worth noting that 9 of the 14 participants were first-time competitors. We were thrilled to see so many new faces and hope to welcome them back when the new academic year begins!

Now, the big question: Could one of the newcomers take home the trophy? Round 3 provides the answer. Heading into this round, two of the three players with a perfect score of 2/2—Maximilian and Menderes—were newcomers. They faced off against some of our most seasoned players. Menderes was matched against Giacomo, who is the second most active player in our community with an impressive 55 tournament games under his belt. Maximilian, on the other hand, faced Jasper, the writer of this report.

Unfortunately, both newcomers were defeated, which meant that neither would claim first place. Indeed, Giacomo went on to win his final round, securing a clear lead with a perfect 4/4 score. Menderes and Jasper followed closely, finishing in second and third place, respectively, with 3/4.

Below, you can see the complete rankings. We’ve also updated our Polyrating leaderboard with the new ratings after this tournament.
